All Over the Map Rambles and Ruminations from the Canadian Road【電子書籍】[ Ron James ]

**NATIONAL BESTSELLER

Canada's most verbally virtuosic comic makes his literary debutーand he's just as richly, gloriously funny on the page as on stage.**

His legion of fansーthe ones who ensure his every show the length and breadth of Canada is sold outーrecognize Ron James as one of the great stand-ups of his generation. His seemingly improvisational flights of fancyーno two shows are ever the sameーare crammed with inventive phrase-making, feature a voluminous vocabulary, and put every word into the service of uproarious comedy.

He sounds like a man born to write a great bookーand now at last he has. But this is a book he has been writing for most of his life, in his head, in his car, while driving from gig to gig.

In All Over the Map, Ron has brilliantly captured the voice that has enthralled millions on stage and screen. He also lets up a little on the usually relentless laughs (though there are still plenty of those) to reveal a new dimension to his beloved showbiz character. His hilarious reminiscences of growing up in Nova Scotia and his early struggles as an aspiring comic, his reveries on such topics as family, country, celebrity and lessons learned from myriad chance encounters will deepen our appreciation for this great comic and win him many new fans in his new role as author.

A fabulous One-Year Road Trip Through Europe Explored over twenty countries【電子書籍】[ Richard Castagner ]

This book chronicles a one-year, twenty country Road Trip when I explored Europe.

In my book, I transport my reader into another world they may or may not ever occupy themselves, a road trip they may only dream about.

I try to keep my book positive, adventuresome, humorous, and fun to read.

This journey described in this book might be considered a classic example of the heroic journey, the myth that lends an essential structure to so much narrative literature. In the traditional myth, a heroーwhoever he or she might beーabandons their safe haven and pushes forward into the wilderness in order to test himself against the odds. In the course of this testing, they discover their own rich resources and strengths. The story inevitably involves a returning that completes the cycle: the point being that, upon returning, the hero has been immeasurably strengthened and enlightened by the knowledge gained during the course of his or her difficult journey.

I have been an explorer and a wanderer all of my life. I have always wanted to live every day to its fullest. The harsh reality of life is that we do not make it out alive. Mentors assured me I would grow out of this state; maturity would turn me into a stable asset to society. When I felt the same at middle age, I was confidently told that old age would take care of this problem. When I reached old age (I am now seventy-four), nothing changed. In fact, I recently went on a two-week California road trip and had an awesome time. My conclusion: this disease is happily incurable.

Travels, even if along the same path, are all different and they all have their own personalities. What you have to accept in order to enjoy traveling to the max is that you do not take a trip, a trip takes you. I have always been very good at understanding and doing this.

This was one of the best road trips of the many I have taken in my life. I was a different and a much better person at the conclusion of the trip and I learned a lot about myself, Europeans, and Europe.

I hope you enjoy reading about my road trip as much as I enjoyed living it.

Richard Castagner

author

Over from Union Road My Christian-Left-Intellectual Life【電子書籍】[ Gary Dorrien ]

Gary Dorrien, the renowned social ethicist, theologian, and intellectual historian whose many books are routinely described as magisterial and definitive, in this book turns to interpret his own life as a participant in the religious, intellectual, and social justice currents of his generation. Dorrien tells his personal story of growing up in a working-class family in mid-Michigan, fixing on the crucifix in his Roman Catholic parish, being an inattentive student and a voracious reader, getting through high school mostly because he was a high-profile athlete, and being riveted by the civil rights movement of Martin Luther King Jr. At Alma College he began to develop his signature blend of post-Kantian philosophy and Christian socialist theology, mostly in autodidactic fashion, with no intention of becoming an academic.

His graduate education was searingly interrupted by the death of his younger brother. Dorrien emerged from seminary as a social justice organizer and independent scholar. As he later explained to an interviewer, "I am a jock who began as a solidarity activist, became an Episcopal cleric at thirty, became an academic at thirty-five, and never quite settled on a field, so now I explore the intersections of too many fields." Over from Union Road is a rich memoir of this unusual journey and of Dorrien’s later career. For eighteen years he taught at Kalamazoo College in Michigan, suffering the tragic loss of his beloved spouse Brenda Biggs. There he wrote the books that established his early prominence in social ethics and threw himself headlong against the invasion of Iraq. For nineteen years and counting he has taught at Union Theological Seminary and Columbia University in New York City.

Dorrien tells his story with the same stylish prose and attention to personalities that mark his many acclaimed works in social ethics, theology, and intellectual history. Over from Union Road is a luminous interpretation of our time through the life experience of an eminent scholar-activist.

Mind Over Matter Hard-Won Battles on the Road to Hope【電子書籍】[ Jordin Tootoo ]

Following the bestselling success of the inspiring All the Way, pioneering Inuit NHLer Jordin Tootoo begins the process of healing in the wake of the suicide and violence that marks his family, only to discover the source of all that trauma in his father's secret past.

For some hockey players, retirement marks the moment when it’s all over. But Jordin Tootoo is not most hockey players.

Having inspired millions when he first broke into the league, Tootoo continued to influence people throughout his careerーnot only through his very public triumph over alcoholism, but also his natural charisma. And now, years after hanging up his skates, he is more committed to doing things the right way and speaking about it to others, whether it’s corporate executives or Indigenous youth.

But the news of unmarked graves on the grounds of residential schools brought back to life many of the demons that had haunted his family. In a moment of realization that left him rattled and saddened, Tootoo fit the pieces together. The years that were never spoken of. The heavy drinking. The all too predictable violence. His father was a survivor, marked by what he had survived.

As he travels back to Nunavut to try to speak with his father about what haunts him, he encounters the ghosts of the entire community. Still, as Tootoo says, we are continuously learning and rewriting our story at every step. He has learned from his mistakes and his victories. He has learned from examples of great courage and humility. He has learned from being a father and a husband. And he has learned from his own Inuk traditions, of perseverance and discipline in the face of hardship.

Weaving together life’s biggest themes with observations and experiences, Jordin shares the kind of wisdom he has had to specialize inーthe hard-won kind.
