The Single-Tooth Implant: A Minimally Invasive Approach for Anterior and Posterior Extraction Sockets【電子書籍】[ Dennis P. Tarnow ]

The replacement of the single tooth with a dental implant is one of the most common clinical situations practitioners face on a daily basis. While in the past sockets were left untouched for months after tooth extraction before attending to the residual ridge, today it is possible to perform "one surgery, one time," which is a huge benefit to both the patient and clinician alike. Written by two world-class masters, this book begins with a discussion of the history and rationale for anterior and posterior single-tooth implants, and then it walks the reader through the three types of socketsーtype 1, type 2, and type 3ーand their various indications and limitations. An entire chapter is devoted to clinical management of posterior teeth, followed by a chapter on cementation and impression-making techniques and complications. The final chapter is a clinical case appendix detailing 11 cases of single-tooth replacement in all types of sockets previously described. The protocols showcased in this book will make patient care faster, easier, simpler, more predictable, and, in many cases, less costly.

Impressionable Biologies From the Archaeology of Plasticity to the Sociology of Epigenetics【電子書籍】[ Maurizio Meloni ]

During the twentieth century, genes were considered the controlling force of life processes, and the transfer of DNA the definitive explanation for biological heredity. Such views shaped the politics of human heredity: in the eugenic era, controlling heredity meant intervening in the distribution of "good" and "bad" genes. However, since the turn of the twenty-first century, this centrality of genes has been challenged by a number of "postgenomic" disciplines. The rise of epigenetics in particular signals a shift from notions of biological fixedness to ideas of plasticity and "impressionability" of biological material.

This book investigates a long history of the beliefs about the plasticity of human biology, starting with ancient medicine, and analyses the biopolitical techniques required to govern such permeability. It looks at the emergence of the modern body of biomedicine as a necessary displacement or possibly reconfiguration of earlier plastic views. Finally, it analyses the returning of plasticity to contemporary postgenomic views and argues that postgenomic plasticity is neither a modernistic plasticity of instrumental management of the body nor a postmodernist celebration of potentialities. It is instead a plasticity that disrupts clear boundaries between openness and determination, individual and community, with important implications for notions of risk, responsibility and intervention.

Integrated Esthetics in Periodontics and Implantology【電子書籍】[ Fausto Frizzera ]

Many books include an inherent bias: The authors specialize in a certain beloved technique and attempt to apply this technique to multiple clinical situations while glorifying the successes and dismissing the failures. Or it is written by researchers so wrapped up in science and academia that they forget what it really means to run a dental practice and deal with patients day-to-day. This book is different. The authors have many decades of both academic and clinical experience and have set out to produce a clear, impartial, and rational text to address new concepts and techniques that affect daily clinical practice. Treatments (including their limitations) are described, including many controversial techniques and clinical issues not previously described in the literature. The chapter layout is presented logically and in sequence to address the different specialties in an organized and contextualized way. A comprehensive background is provided to allow readers to determine for themselves ? rather than be told ? how to best develop a sound clinical work.

There is no one way to approach immediate implant placement in molar sites, but each technique has the same prerequisites: careful case selection and planning, good working knowledge of anatomy and bone biology, expertise in localized and indirect sinus floor elevations, and knowing when and how to use particulate bone grafting. But even with such knowledge, clinicians still need guidelines to show them how to achieve predictable success. This book is that guide. It brings together clinical experts in the field who having been leading the research on immediate molar implants over the last decade and it describes the current best practices to ensure implant success. Emphasis is placed on assessment of the implant site, particularly regarding classification of the molar septum bone, and how to achieve optimal implant positioning within the molar socket. The role of digital treatment planning and guided surgery is discussed, as are application of bone grafts and other biomaterials to enhance healing. Immediate molar implants have become a more viable treatment option than ever before, and this book will help clinicians move forward with confidence.
